Introduction
Jabatan ATOM Malaysia is a government regulatory body based in Malaysia, responsible for overseeing the safe and secure use of atomic energy and radioactive materials. The department required a commemorative coffee table book to mark a significant anniversary, documenting its regulatory milestones and contributions to national development.
The publication needed to present the department’s evolution as a regulatory authority while highlighting its role in nuclear safety, capacity building and regional collaboration. Walk Production was appointed to deliver the coffee table book with bilingual content in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
The project scope covered art direction, design, copywriting, graphic production and print production coordination. The goal was to create an institutional record that communicates the department’s mandate and achievements to both government stakeholders and the public.
Our Solutions
Art direction and coffee table book design
The design takes a restrained, commemorative approach built around a warm colour palette. Typography was set for comfortable reading across both the English and Bahasa Malaysia text, which run in parallel throughout the book.
The book is structured chronologically, following the department from its early years to the present. Layouts pair archival photographs with contemporary imagery, and feature spreads mark the milestones, leadership contributions and international engagements along the way.
Bilingual copywriting
Separate English and Bahasa Malaysia writers handled the bilingual corporate copywriting, writing parallel content rather than translating one version into the other. Each language reads naturally for its own audience while carrying the same account of the department’s regulatory mandate and milestones.
The bilingual work ran across every editorial section, from the foreword messages by senior officials to the historical narratives and programme descriptions. Regulatory and scientific topics are explained in plain language that government stakeholders and general readers can both follow.
Graphic design and print production
We developed custom graphic elements to carry the commemorative narrative, including timeline visualisations, organisational charts and milestone markers. Key sections use a grid-based image collage to present the department’s work through selected photographs.
Print production focused on accurate colour reproduction and a quality material specification. The finished book was produced for official distribution at anniversary events and stakeholder engagements, and stands as an institutional record of the department’s work.
The Results
The anniversary book sets out Jabatan ATOM Malaysia’s regulatory history and achievements in a commemorative format. In both languages, it explains the department’s role in nuclear safety and national development to Bahasa Malaysia and English-speaking readers alike.
The book works as an official publication for government presentations and public engagement. Its design and editorial content together record the department’s part in Malaysia’s atomic energy governance.
Related Questions
Why bilingual English and Bahasa Malaysia for the ATOM Malaysia book?
As a Malaysian government department, ATOM Malaysia communicates with both Bahasa Malaysia and English-speaking audiences across government, academia and the public. Producing the publication in both languages from the start, with parallel content, means each audience reads the book in their preferred language without translation feeling like an afterthought.
What design elements suit a government commemorative publication like ATOM Malaysia’s?
Government commemorative book design typically uses a colour palette and typography system that reads as institutional rather than promotional, with structured layouts that carry authority. Commemorative elements such as anniversary logos, timeline graphics and milestone markers are integrated to mark the occasion. ATOM Malaysia’s book follows this approach.
What does the ATOM Malaysia book scope cover?
The scope covers art direction, coffee table book design, English and Bahasa Malaysia copywriting, graphic design and print production. Walk Production delivered the publication end-to-end so the department could focus on the editorial review and the anniversary programme rather than coordinating multiple suppliers.
